ME S-STEM scholars were fortunately to attend a research seminar by Dr. Meilin Yu, an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at UMBC. Dr. Yu described using high-order computational fluid dynamic (CFD) methods to quantify complex dynamical system. The research projects in the talk included bio-inspired aero-hydrodynamics surrounding flapping wings, blade design in wind energy harvesting, and nanoparticle transport in heterogeneous tumors. The ME Department also provided refreshments after the talk, allowing interactions between students and faculty members in the department.
