Our Scholar Participates in the Lakeland Math Coach Program
ME S-STEM scholar Jasmine Bonilla is currently working with the Lakeland Math Coach Program that aims at helping students from Lakeland Elementary/Middle School to excel in their math skills in preparation for their future. Jasmine visits the school twice a week to attend what the school calls "intervention blocks" where students are split into groups to work on strengthening specific math skills. The Lakeland Math Coach Program inspires students to work hard to see the idea of going to college in their future and pushes them to do exceptionally well in their math classes. An important role Jasmine plays is working with multiple Hispanic students to translate and get the math concepts across in an understandable manner for these kids. Not only is Jasmine a tutor, or math coach for these students, she is a mentor and a role model who plays an essential role in boosting the confidence these students have in their ability to be fluent in their problem-solving.
