Internship at SLAC-NAL -- Mr. A-R Adeleke
In the summer of 2020, one of our ME S-STEM scholars, Mr. Abdul-Raheem Adeleke had an unusual internship (online) with the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory formally known as the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. It is one of the U.S Department of Energy’s 17 national laboratories, its research focuses on advanced scientific studies using extremely high-powered X-rays. During this internship Mr. Adeleke worked remotely to create a computer script that automated the lens alignment of a robotic microspectrophotometer system used to study organic protein crystals. He studied the systems manual lens alignment process, then created a script using the Tcl programming language to automatically move the motorized lenses to their optimally aligned positions. Additionally, the script helped identify and automatically solve critical alignment errors within the system which overall saved time and labor for the staff that operated it. Congratulation!
